Jackson Hole back on the agenda

The week ahead should be lively with some top-tier data and news on the agenda. Here are a few things to watch out for.

Monday:

  • Eurozone construction output

  • The BOC’s Wilkins speaks in Frankfurt

  • Fed’s Bostic speaks in Tennessee

Tuesday:

  • A Chinese delegation led by Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen will meet U.S. representatives led by Treasury Under Secretary for International Affairs David Malpass in the first round of low-level talks on trade. Two days of meetings are planned.

  • RBA Governor Lowe speaks in Canberra

  • UK public finances

Wednesday:

Thursday:

Friday:

  • New Zealand trade balance

  • Japan CPI

  • German final Q2 GDP

  • US durable goods orders

  • Fed Chairman Powell attends his first Jackson Hole symposium and will speak about “monetary policy in a changing economy”.

Other events:

The US and Mexico both touted progress on autos at NAFTA meetings. There are still a few sticky issues but they may be able to close the file early in the week. That would set up three-party talks and a potential conclusion in the weeks ahead.
